Our Story

Farmer John always dreamed of starting his own apple orchard. Born and raised on a dairy and chicken farm in Johnstown, PA, he developed a passion for agriculture at a young age, particularly for apples. After college, he purchased 22 acres in Tarentum, PA, where he hand-grafted apple trees and planted about 1,000 of them. While working in the computer field, which he considered his main job, he nurtured his orchard as a side project. It was through his computer work that he met and fell in love with Diane. Together, they ran the orchard for eight years, growing apples and offering u-pick strawberries.

During this time, their careers took them to San Francisco, California, where their daughters, Melissa and Emily, were born. They had about an acre of land, which they turned into a large garden. After more than 27 years in San Fran and with both daughters choosing colleges near Pittsburgh, John and Diane decided to ‘retire’ and return to family in PA in December of 2011. However, this new chapter turned out to be even more work than their previous careers!

John continued to plant and hand-graft apple trees on our current 29-acre property in Finleyville, PA, where we launched our first produce season in 2012, starting with just five CSA shares and a handful of fruits and vegetables. Today, our farm has grown so much that we've had to cap our CSA program. We are grateful for the ongoing support of our community and are proud to provide fresh, nutritious produce for local families.

When asked about his passion for farming, Farmer John simply says, 'I want people to eat food that’s easy for their bodies to digest and get nutrients from, just like our bodies were designed to do.' The farm is a labor of love, and we take great pride in providing high-quality produce for your family. Thank you for being part of our journey!
